A successful year

Well my year is almost over. I'm happy with my progress and the new skills I have learned. Continuous improvement is my motto. I just had my 3 art show/sale this past Friday. I sold 4 peices which I feel is successful in this horrible economy. My highschool teacher Mr Sebring showed up with his friend and jewerly teacher Mr Smith. I spoke with them for 15 minutes and wow I can still learn from these incredible artists. everything they talk about is art and what they did to make a peice. it's unbeleivable to me how much they know. I hope to be that knowledgable and artistic someday. attached are some pics.

A fresh start

I finally came back to ceramics after a seven year layoff starting in January. I didn't know if I would still have the skills I did back in high school and college. In all reality I think I was a better artist at Dobson than I was at MCC. My high school teacher Mr. Sebring had a big influence in my life and I'm so grateful I needed a fine art credit my sophomore year at Dobson.

I started off slow making 20 bowls to refine my skills and work on my glazing techniques. I hate making bowls.... But, it was a necessary evil that I had to do. My throwing skills were still very raw after I completed my bowls but it helped me remember many old techniques with trimming and glazing. I wanted to move forward and started throwing larger and different shapes to rekindle my old skills. Some vessels I made were better than others but within a few more weeks I felt I could get back to where I was quickly. My favorite thing to do in ceramics is making large vessels. I like making hug pots because not many people can. I try to do many different shapes, colors, firing and finishing techniques as well to stand out from other ceramic artists. I'm getting to the point now where my skills are in need of challenges. I have done some research on San Diego State University and plan on having my portfolio ready by Feb 1st 2009 to start my masters of fine art in the Fall of 2009.

My teacher asked me to participate in the Mesa Community college ceramics show on April 24, 2008. I sold 6 pieces at this show and ended up selling another 4 in the next week.
